Jul 10, 2006· To be honest, I don't know why the dog clutch can engage in 8 places, but I also never head of a lathe with a multi-start leadscrew before either. Or a 2 TPI leadscrew for that matter. I'll have to do the math, but I think if the dog clutch re-engages in 8 places on a 2 TPI, two thread leadscrew, you should have 1 of 4 possible thread starts.
