It has Babbit headstock bearings and the bed length is 36". It has a big 3/4" lead screw. There is a serial number stamped in the front rail at the extreme right, H 15883 S.
Nov 28, 2005· The thing is though, I would guess that the best shank to be using in the Clausing 8520 would be a MT#2 taper shank threaded for a 3/8 16tpi drawbar like my collets but I haven't yet found a source for these type of shanks (3/8 16tpi MT#2) that could be installed on my drill chucks, tapping head, small shell mills, boring head, etc.

The Atlas Press Co. 10 inch lathe that I purchased for my son had a form of metallurgical cancer in the Zamak aluminum-zinc alloy gears. Several teeth fell right out of the main bull gear on the headstock, and closer examination revealed swelling and cracks everywhere on the gear. So I had to machine a new one to make the lathe functional.

Almost no auto parts stores carry this anymore but you can buy it under the equivalent ISO viscosity system in gallons from places like Enco and if you live in a larger city with a good machine tool supply company handy, probably from them.
Milling machine For whatever its worth, I bought a WT 6X26 mill two years ago and it has done everything I have asked of it. Of course a larger, more expensive, heavier machine would be better but the 6X26 is very capable. I have not machined a 1911 frame but have no doubt that it would do the job.
